The county clerk is where all the land ownership/deeds, liens, marriages, births, deaths, wills, name changes. etc. are recorded.
All records located there are PUBLIC. Anyone is allowed to view them and ask for copies.
The records are kept in books even if they have them digitized too.
Some places have their records online now but many still require you go to the office if you want a copy.
You can also get a certified copy which is a copy stamped and signed by the clerk to say it is a true copy.
